McGeady sidelined with ankle injury

Soccer:Aiden McGeady is expected to miss around two months as he recovers from the ankle injury he suffered last weekend. The Republic of Ireland international limped out of Spartak Moscow's scoreless draw with Rubin Kazan on Friday night.

Subsequent scans revealed ligament damage and the club don’t expect him back until August. Given Spartak’s domestic form – they are just eighth in the Russian Premier League – McGeady’s absence will be keenly felt. The former Celtic winger has been one of the more consistent performers this season with his form reportedly attracting interest from Italy’s Serie A.

While the injury is likely to keep him sidelined until the middle of August, the 25-year-old should be back in action when Ireland’s Euro 2012 campaign resumes at home to Slovakia on September 2nd.
