Tottenham striker Mido will miss Friday's African Nations Cup final against Ivory Coast after being expelled from the national squad following a row with coach Hassan Shehata.
The 22-year-old has been suspended from international duty for six months after exchanging angry words on the touchline with Shehata having been substituted during the 2-1 semi-final victory over Senegal last night.
Mido, who is on loan at White Hart Lane from Roma, had to be dragged away by coaching staff but Shehata's decision proved correct as the Spurs striker's replacement Amr Zaki scored the winner.
Egyptian public opinion turned against the 22-year-old striker, who came close to trading blows with Shehata when he was taken off in the 78th minute of the game.
One newspaper headline today ran: "Mido loses the respect of the nation" - while most Egyptians say the player disgraced himself and should be kicked out of the squad.
Shehata now has only three recognised strikers in his squad, one of whom is 39-year-old Hossam Hassan.
Egypt are likely to need all the firepower they can muster as they prepare to take on the World Cup qualifiers, who have conceeded five goals in as many games.
Three of those came when they fielded a second string side in their final group match against the hosts.
