Tottenham striker Mido's permanent move to White Hart Lane could be wrecked by injury.
The Egyptian has missed the last three games for Spurs with a groin injury but now coach Martin Jol has revealed the striker is suffering from a knee problem.
Jol has always maintained that Mido must stay fit to earn any real chance of securing a permanent move.
He is nearing the end of his 18-month loan spell from Roma but now fears he might not play again for Spurs as they look to seal their Champions League place for next season.
Jol's team have to win their remaining two games against Bolton at home and West Ham away to finish in fourth place.
But they could still be robbed of a place in the competition next season if Arsenal are crowned kings of Europe.
Despite all the negotiations, Spurs still have not reached an agreement with Roma over his future and his agent recently insisted that other clubs had moved ahead of the Londoners in the race for his signature.
Mido said: "Tottenham are still negotiating to keep me and I hope for that.
"But if it doesn't work out then it's not the end of the world, because if I'm not here next season I'll be playing at another club."
Mido's groin injury kept him out against Everton, Manchester United and
Arsenal and now Jol reveals his fitness problems have worsened.
Mido added: "It's an injury I've had for the last week. I tried my hardest to recover but couldn't.
"When I started training again I felt pain in my groin tendon, so I had to get straight back off."
Jol confirmed: "Mido couldn't even do a fitness test, it was too painful on his knee — not his groin. At first it was his groin but he came back and now it's his knee."
