Defiant goalkeeper Ger Doherty helps Derry keep dominant Bray at bay

Home side left to rue missed penalty late in the first half

Derry City recorded their fourth draw of the league campaign when a string of superb saves by goalkeeper Ger Doherty earned them a point against battling Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.

The Seagulls went close on six minutes when a 22-yard free by Graham Kelly was pushed round the post by Doherty. Then a corner by Kelly on the right was touched on by defender Adam Mitchell to allow striker Ishmahil Akinade to get in an audacious back-heel which was saved by Doherty on the line.

Bray should have taken the lead on 29 minutes when a quick David Cassidy free saw the unmarked Dave Webster race clear but he fired wide of the target.

The home side wasted another great chance on 41 minutes when an Akinade cross was handled by Danny Ventre.

Then a free from striker Enda Curran took a deflection from 25 yards but was well saved by Bray ’keeper Stephen McGuinness.

Kelly was foiled by another Doherty save on 69 minutes before Michael Duffy saw a late effort for Derry brilliantly saved by by McGuinness.
