Striker Rory Patterson helped himself to a hat-trick as Derry City collected their first points of the season at the Belfield Bowl last night.
Patterson availed of a defensive error by Hugh Douglas to fire Derry in front on eight minutes and they doubled their lead on 26 minutes when another defensive blunder – this time by James Kavanagh – allowed Patterson grab his second goal.
Patterson completed his hat-trick with a free-kick after 35 minutes and Thomas Crawley fired home a fourth goal for Derry on 48 minutes after an incisive burst from the right wing.
College skipper David O’Connor was sent off for a foul on Mark Griffin after 68 minutes and substitute Michael Rafter and Mark Griffin added two more goals to complete the rout.
