Drogheda United 4 Bray Wanderers 2

Drogheda’s first win in 10 moved them four points clear of Bray last night as the Seagulls rounded off a nightmare week in Louth.

Stephen McGuinness showed no signs of nerves as he made two early stops to deny Daryl Kavanagh, but on nine minutes Drogheda’s defensive frailties were exposed.

Bray’s interim manager David Cassidy whipped in a corner which Chris Lyons to finish to the net.

Close range

Peter McGlynn fired over from close range late in the half for Bray.

Drogheda levelled 60 seconds into the second-half. Their first attack down the left found Lee Duffy free on the right of the box and he played the ball across for Seán Brennan, who managed to stab it home.

Jason Marks’ corners were to prove a source of inspiration in the second half for Drogheda.

One was powered in by Mick Daly, while a second was met by Alan Byrne, whose flick on was forced home at the back post by Kavanagh, who ended his long goal drought.

In a repeat of Bray’s first goal, Cassidy’s corner looped over Micheál Schlingermann from the head of McGlynn, but with three minutes to go substitute Tiarnan Mulvenna wrapped it up as he finished at the far post.
