Aaron Greene goals in either half along with David Cawley’s strike just before the hour mark ensured champions Sligo Rovers collected another three points against a UCD side who started well but soon fell to pieces at Belfield Bowl.
Rovers came into the game with a 100 per-cent record from their opening five games, while UCD had a solitary point to show for their efforts but the home side UCD put up a good early fight.
Rovers’ strength eventually shone through and they took the lead on 27 minutes when Raffaele Cretaro and Kieran Djilali combined on the wing to set up Greene who fired low past Mark McGinley in the UCD goal from just outside the area.
Cawley netted Rovers’ second goal on 59 minutes, a powerful low drive past McGinley, after Greene’s initial shot had been blocked from a Lee Lynch corner. Greene scored his second and his side’s third on 75 minutes when he was allowed waltz through unchallenged to coolly finish past McGinley.
