Limerick 0
Drogheda Utd 1
The Ryan brothers were in goal for both sides at Thomond Park and the family bragging rights were won by Dave for the visitors who held on in a game that was delayed near the end by a four-minute floodlight failure.
Limerick have yet to score a goal at the venue in this competition this season but they went close on a number of occasions this time.
Drogheda twice claimed penalties inside 10 minutes but it was Limerick who put together a four-man move after 17 minutes which ended with a great save by the visiting netminder who also stopped a rebound effort.
The deadlock was broken after 30 minutes when United’s Declan O’Brien had a simple tap-in from five yards after Barry Ryan failed to deal adequately with a cross that came in from the right.
But the home goalkeeper made amends with a great save from Gary O’Neill and his brother made a fantastic save when he pushed over a goal-bound header from James McGrath six minutes before the end of a lively half.
An Alan McNally header was pushed over by Barry Ryan after 58 minutes and Limerick's best chance came after 70 minute when Shane Duggan broke down a cross with his chest but his shot whizzed inches wide.
