UCD could be in line for a surprise spot in next season's Europe League after it was announced Ireland currently top the UEFA Respect Fair Play League table ahead of the Netherlands and England.

In order to get the extra European spot Ireland need to be in the top three of the fair play league by April 30, with a ranking of eight points or higher.

Collie O’Neill’s side were relegated to the League of Ireland first division last season following defeat to Galway United in a play-off, but they are currently sitting third in the Airtricity League’s Fair Play table.

With the two sides above them, Dundalk and Cork City, already guaranteed European football, Ireland's fair play slot would go The Students, with UEFA regulations allowing a side relegated to the second highest division to qualify for the Europa League through fair play.
