Northern Ireland 3 Poland 2:Northern Ireland boosted their World Cup qualifying chances with a 3-2 win over Poland in Belfast this evening.

The home team took a 10th-minute lead in the Group Three tie when striker Warren Feeney tapped in a Damien Johnson centre.

Ireneusz Jelen squeezed Poland's equaliser under goalkeeper Maik Taylor 17 minutes later before Jonny Evans restored Northern Ireland's advantage early in the second half.

Northern Ireland went 3-1 up in the 61st minute when Poland captain Michal Zewlakow's backpass bobbled under keeper Artur Boruc for an own goal.

Marek Saganowski headed the second goal for the visitors in injury time.

Nigel Worthington’s side have 10 points from six matches but have played more games than all of their group rivals.

Poland find themselves on seven points from five games.
