O'Callaghan impresses at Ipswich trial

George O'Callaghan will remain on trial with Ipswich Town for another week after impressing manager Jim Magilton.

George O'Callaghan will remain on trial with Ipswich Town for another week after impressing manager Jim Magilton.

The midfielder - touted in many quarters as the most talented player in the domestic league - is desperate for a move away from Cork City for whom he has not played since falling out with manager Damien Richardson in June.

"George has been with us this week and has done well in training," Magilton said.  "We are having a look at him and he'll stay with us for next week and we'll take it from there."

O'Callaghan has almost 18 months remaining on his Cork City contract but his future would appear to lie overseas as he can not join another Irish club until after the end of the season.

Nottingham Forest, Cardiff City, Southend United and Slavia Prague all expressed an interest in the 27-year-old former Port Vale player although concrete offers were conspicuous by their absence.
