Transfer round-up: Real Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Porto centre-back Pepe on a five-year contract, the Spanish champions said on Tuesday.

Portuguese sports daily O Jogosaid Real would pay €28 million for the 24-year-old Brazilian-born player.

Pepe is the second centre-back the club have signed in the close season with German international Christoph Metzelder due to be presented this week.

Real's move for Pepe could signal the end of attempts to sign Romania defender Cristian Chivu from AS Roma, with Fabio Cannavaro and Metzelder already lined up for next season.

Real have moved quickly for Pepe having unveiled Bernd Schuster as their new coach on Monday.

A tall and pacy defender, Pepe joined Porto from Maritimo in 2004 and won a league and cup double with them in 2006. He picked up a second league title with Porto last season.

Meanwhile, Rolando Bianchiis poised to become Sven-Goran Eriksson's first signing as Manchester City boss after Reggina confirmed they have reached a "preliminary agreement" for the sale of the Italian striker.

The 24-year-old was the fourth top-scorer in Serie A last season with 18 goals and has been courted by several clubs across Europe. But City appear to be in pole position after Reggina admitted a deal was close.

Reggina president Pasquale Foti said: "We have reached a preliminary agreement with Manchester City for the permanent transfer of Rolando Bianchi to the English club in a €13million transfer deal. The deal will be completed on Wednesday."

Wigan have completed the signing of Jason Koumasfor £5.3million. The deal represents a £3million profit for West Brom on a player who cost them £2.25million from Tranmere in 2002.

Koumas has since made 141 appearances for the Baggies, scoring 23 goals, while he netted a further 13 during a season-long loan with Cardiff in 2005-06.
