Germany 2 Poland 0: German striker Lukas Podolski scored both goals to help his team to victory over Poland, getting them off to a great start in their Euro 2008 campaign.
Podolski struck once in each half - first in the 20th minute when he fired into an open net after a square ball from Miroslav Klose and then in the 72nd when he took advantage of confusion in the Polish defence to score from close range.
It was Germany's first victory in the European finals since they won the tournament in 1996 with a golden goal win over the Czech Republic in the final in England.
Germany go to the top of Group B on goal difference, just ahead of Croatia, who earlier beat co-hosts Austria 1-0 in Vienna.
