Deadline Day Transfer News: Blackburn have signed striker Florent Sinama Pongolle from Liverpool on loan until the end of the season while also wrapping up a permanent deal for David Bentley.
The 21-year-old Frenchman has struggled to break into the first team at Anfield this season and now has a chance to challenge for a place up front at Ewood Park.
Bentley, also 21, who spent the first half of the season on loan with Mark Hughes' side from Arsenal, has now made the move permanent, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
United fail in bid to land Vogel
AC Milan have rebuffed renewed interest from Manchester United in Switzerland midfielder Johann Vogel.
Rossoneri sporting director Ariedo Braida admitted United had enquired about the 28-year-old but were told the player would be staying at the San Siro.
"Johann Vogel will remain at AC Milan 100 per cent," said Braida. "We want him and we need him and therefore we are not willing to let him go.
"It's true that Manchester United showed an interest but no offer was made because we said from the beginning that we wanted to keep the player."
United are in the market for a midfielder with Paul Scholes out for the season with eye trouble, John O'Shea missing for six weeks with fractured ribs and Ryan Giggs facing a week on the sidelines after picking up a slight hamstring strain in last Wednesday's win over Blackburn.
Vogel has struggled to hold down a place in the Milan midfield after joining the Serie A club from PSV Eindhoven at the start of the season.
Pompey land D'Alessandro
Portsmouth have pulled off the signing of Argentina international playmaker Andres D'Alessandro on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent deal.
The Wolfsburg playmaker has become Harry Redknapp's ninth signing of the January transfer window and is the most exciting arrival since Alexandre Gaydamak's recent investment in the club.
Redknapp said of the 24-year-old on the club's website, pompeyfc.co.uk: "The boy is a really influential playmaker and you can't have too many of those. This is a massive signing at the club for sure."
Delap follows northern lights
Sunderland have signed Southampton's Rory Delap on a two-and-a-half-year deal. The 29-year-old midfielder joins on a free transfer.
Delap is the latest to leave as manager George Burley continues to restructure his Saints squad. The 29-year-old, who made more than 150 appearances after joining in a club record £4million deal from Derby five years ago, is currently carrying an Achilles injury.
Cup hero Campbell joins Birmingham
Birmingham have swooped to sign Brentford's FA Cup hero DJ Campbell in a deal which could eventually be worth £1 million to the League One club.
Campbell has put pen to paper on a three-year contract which will keep him at the Blues until 2009. Blues boss Steve Bruce has been tracking Campbell, signed by the Bees in the summer from non-league Yeading, for the past six weeks.
The 24-year-old grabbed both goals for Brentford in Saturday's memorable 2-1 fourth round triumph over Premiership side Sunderland at Griffin Park. But it was his last game for the club and now Bruce is hoping he can complement Emile Heskey, Chris Sutton and Mikael Forssell with his pace and finishing power in the top flight.
Birmingham will pay an initial £500,000 for Campbell but the fee could double depending on appearances and his achievements with the midlands club.
Brown makes London switch
Fulham have signed midfielder Michael Brown from Spurs for an undisclosed fee. The former Sheffield United player has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract after finding first-team opportunities limited at White Hart Lane.
Brown told the club's website: "I'm very excited to be joining Fulham at this point in my career and I'm looking forward to the challenges that this new opportunity brings. I enjoyed my time at Spurs and wish the club and its supporters well, as everyone there was really good to me.
"But if I'm honest my prospects there became very limited, so when a club like Fulham who play attractive passing football showed an interest in me, there really was only one decision that I could make, and I'm really looking forward to working with Chris Coleman and the rest of the squad."
Moving out of Craven Cottage, defender Zesh Rehman has been allowed to join Norwich on loan for the rest of the season after the 22-year-old Pakistan international found it difficult to break into the first-team on a regular basis.
He will aid the Canaries' Coca-Cola Championship promotion push - including the play-offs should Nigel Worthington's side reach them. Worthington also hopes to complete the loan signing of Charlton forward Jonatan Johansson before tonight's clash with leaders Reading.
Pearce holds Barton crisis talks
Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce has warned want-away midfielder Joey Barton there will be no more money on the table in any fresh contract negotiations.
Barton slapped in a transfer request late last night after rejecting City's double-your-money offer of £28,000-a-week.
Although the demand was instantly rejected by Pearce, coming just 24 hours before the deadline closes, it did raise the suspicion Barton had another move lined up.
The former England Under-21 star's agent Willie McKay has flatly rejected such talk, insisting Barton has become frustrated at being 'taken for granted' by the Blues, adding that the desire to leave Eastlands is not fuelled by money.
As of lunchtime, City had received no bid for the 23-year-old, who will be included in Pearce's squad to face Newcastle tomorrow despite the likelihood of a massive fan backlash against him.
Ghaly to team-up with Mido at Spurs
Spurs have secured Egyptian midfielder Hossam Ghaly from Dutch club Feyenoord. The 24-year-old, who has 19 international caps, has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the London club.
No financial details were given. Ghaly will link up with compatriot Mido at Spurs, whose sporting director Damien Comolli said: "I have watched Hossam since he was 17 years old. He is a versatile, very physical and technically gifted midfielder who will offer us a number of playing options. He is a terrific addition to the squad."
Spurs lie fourth in the Premiership and Ghaly, who was linked with a move to Spurs' London rivals Arsenal in November, is their first major signing of the January transfer window.
Wigan’s Skoko rejects Stoke move
Wigan's Australia international midfielder Josip Skoko has rejected a loan move to Stoke, despite a lack of first-team opportunities at the JJB Stadium. Skoko has struggled to force his way into the side since a summer move from Turkish club Genclerbirligi.
Cooper leaves Old Trafford
Manchester United have released young American striker Kenny Cooper. The 21-year-old arrived at Old Trafford in 2003 but despite featuring regularly for the Red Devils reserve side, failed to make a senior appearance for United.
Cooper becomes the third player to leave United this month, following the departures of midfielder David Fox and Finnish forward Jami Puustinen.
