Portsmouth look to sign Czech pair

Portsmouth are trying to re-sign midfielder Patrik Berger - and also want his fellow Czech Milan Baros.

Berger, 34, has endured an injury-ravaged season at Villa Park, which has limited him to just five substitute appearances - but Pompey boss Harry Redknapp is ready to take a gamble on him.

He has been tipped to move back to his native Czech Republic, where has has not played since leaving for Borussia Dortmund in 1995.

Berger spent just one season in Germany before he was snapped up by Liverpool and after seven successful years at Anfield, he moved onto Pompey and then Villa.

His love affair with England looked set to come to an end and he was even linked with a move home this month, but Pompey now want to sign him.

His agent Pavel Paska, though, says Villa are unwilling to let Berger go.

"Aston Villa don't want to hear about releasing him at present," Paska told ISM Football.

Lyon striker Baros, meanwhile, has emerged as a target for Redknapp as he looks to bolster a squad weakened by the African Cup of Nations.

And Paska claims there is already an offer on the table.

He told Czech daily Sport: "I have already given the official offer of Portsmouth to Lyon's management.

"Their coach Harry Redknapp has an eminent interest in Milan."
