Goalkeeper Manuel Almunia (wrist) misses out but midfielder Abou Diaby is available after a ban. Denilson returns after hamstring trouble but neither midfielder Mathieu Flamini nor full-back Bacary Sagna (ankle) are match fit and Justin Hoyte (hamstring), Tomas Rosicky (knee) and Eduardo (leg) miss out again.

Reading have no new injury worries. Winger Glen Little is set to start after more than a year out with a heel problem and skipper Graeme Murty is back in contention following a knee injury. Utility man Brynjar Gunnarsson is available again following groin surgery.

Reds captain Steven Gerrard has an injured neck and will not be risked ahead of the Champions League semi-final first leg against Chelsea, while defender Alvaro Arbeloa has a thigh strain. Striker Fernando Torres may also be rested but Jermaine Pennant is fit to return and Javier Mascherano has completed a suspension.

Boro midfielder Gary O'Neil, who would have been suspended for the next two games anyway, is out after undergoing surgery to repair a knee ligament problem. Robert Huth (foot) and Andrew Taylor (ribs) remain on the injured list, as does striker Mido (hernia).

Bolton will be without suspended striker Kevin Davies, with Heidar Helguson favourite to replace him. Otherwise, boss Gary Megson looks set to name an unchanged side, with Joey O'Brien, Ricardo Gardner, Nicky Hunt and goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen all unavailable because of injury.

Blues give fitness tests to striker James McFadden and midfielder Sebastian Larsson, who have knee problems. Mauro Zarate is on stand-by to replace McFadden while midfielder Olivier Kapo may return after a hamstring strain. Midfielder Damien Johnson is banned and defender Martin Taylor has a hamstring strain.

Boss Redknapp is likely to partner on-loan Baros with Jermain Defoe in a 4-4-2 formation and keep Kanu on the bench. Glen Johnson should recover from a bug in time, while Niko Kranjcar may be rested.

James Milner and Stephen Carr have an outside chance of making the squad after recovering from foot and hamstring injuries respectively and Claudio Cacapa (groin) and Peter Ramage (knee) are all closing in on returns, while Shay Given is still fighting his way back from groin surgery.

Sunderland midfielder Dickson Etuhu had admitted defeat in his efforts to recover from a knee injury before the end of the season. Dwight Yorke has failed to shake off his own knee problem and is unlikely to figure, but manager Roy Keane otherwise has only a series of minor knocks to contend with.
