QPR braced for busy deadline day

Soccer: QPR could bring in as many as three more new players before tomorrow's transfer deadline

Soccer:QPR could bring in as many as three more new players before tomorrow's transfer deadline. The London club have been busy during the January transfer window, signing Manchester United's Federico Macheda, AC Milan left-back Taye Taiwo and Nedum Onuoha from Manchester City.

Nancy midfielder Samba Diakite completed his loan move to Loftus Road on Monday afternoon and it is understood the west Londoners are hopeful of up to another three joining before the deadline.

QPR manager Mark Hughes said on Monday he is content with the club's January work so far and is hopeful of more signings to come.

"We are reasonably happy with the business we have done up until now," he said. "We are hopeful of doing a little bit more before the window closes but, as with all of these things, you never know until the window closes how many of your targets you will complete on.

"Some seem to move very, very quickly and others take a huge amount of time and effort to get over the line. We are involved in a number of those types of deals so we will just have to wait and see. We are pleased with how we have done up until this point and hopefully we can continue in the same vein."

Hughes is known to want to bring a striker to the Shepherds Bush outfit, although he played down speculation of a sensational swoop for Manchester City's Carlos Tevez.

"I would consider it all the days of the week but the likelihood of that happening is unlikely, to be perfectly honest," Hughes said of the Argentina international, who he managed during his time at the City helm. "As much as I would love to think it could happen, I would be very surprised.

"He is very much a Man City player at this time and I think the view is he will be there until the end of the season and then he will look at his options again. Unfortunately, I don't think we are an option for him."

Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse is one possible option for Rangers, who are in discussions with Lazio over a possible move. There had been suggestions the Italian club wanted QPR playmaker Adel Taarabt in exchange but that was denied by Hughes.

"No, there is no swap deal," he said. "We are trying to work hard on a number of deals and obviously Djibril Cisse is a player that I have admired. He knows the Premier League and I think he would be good for us.

"It is difficult to conclude these deals and you are never sure until they are actually confirmed and have all the paperwork in front of you. We are not at that point yet with this one."

Hughes also revealed his hunt for a striker saw QPR make a bid for Hugo Rodallega, although that was rejected by Wigan.

"We've been linked with a lot of players, to be honest," the Welshman said when asked about a reported €5 million offer. "We made a bid over a week ago but we have not returned since. We would have to revisit it if we felt he was the right one for us. At the moment we put in an offer that we felt was at the right level and we got knocked back so we haven't been back since."

Hughes also seemed to rule out a move for wantaway Blackburn defender Christopher Samba, who Rangers made offers for earlier in January.

Asked whether he would make another bid, he replied: "Unfortunately I don't give you many clues but I will try and steer you in the right direction: maybe [thinking we will sign Samba] is the wrong direction to go."
