European round-up:  Rangers' bid to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League will go right to the wire after they lost in Stuttgart tonight.

Walter Smith's men now need at least a draw when Lyon come calling in the final group match on December 12 after the French champions earned a draw against Barcelona.

Rangers had taken the lead through substitute Charlie Adam before Stuttgart hit back through Cacau. Barry Ferguson then cancelled out Pavel Pardo's strike before Ciprian Marica clinched the win late on.

Barcelona reached the knockout phase with a 2-2 draw at Olympique Lyon in the group's other game.

The 2006 champions, who have 11 points from five matches, also secured top place in Group E following Rangers' defeat.

The Scottish side and Lyon will battle it out for the group's other berth in last 16 spot in two weeks time at Hampden Park.

Lyon fell behind after only three minutes when Andres Iniesta connected with a Bojan Krkic cross from the right to score with a low shot.

The hosts equalised four minutes later courtesy of Juninho's 40-metre free kick.

Barcelona went ahead again in an absorbing contest shortly before the hour when Lionel Messi converted a penalty after being brought down by Sebastien Squillaci.

But Juninho netted his second, also with a penalty, 10 minutes from time after a foul by Eric Abidal on Abdulkader Keita.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a stunning injury-time free-kick to clinch top spot in Champions League Group F for Manchester United.

Already qualified from their pool, the Red Devils fell behind when Tomasz Kuszczak allowed Abel's driven cross-shot from the right touchline to beat him at his near post in the 21st minute.

But Carlos Tevez, on as a half-time substitute, was credited with the scrambled equaliser before Ronaldo scored his last-ditch winner from 25 yards out.

Arsenal lost both their unbeaten record this season and leadership of Group H tonight after slumping to a 3-1 defeat to Sevilla in Spain.

A youthful Gunners side took the lead in the 11th minute through Eduardo da Silva, but Sevilla hit back to claim a deserved win and join Arsenal in the last 16.

Seydou Keita levelled the scores up soon after Eduardo's strike, before further goals from Luis Fabiano and former Tottenham striker Frederic Kanoute - from the penalty spot - wrapped up the win for the hosts.
