Champions League round-up: Mark Gonzalez scored the winner on his debut just three minutes after coming on in against Maccabi Haifa as the home side secured a 2-1 win in the Champions League qualifiers.
Liverpool had toiled against the Israeli champions in this third qualifying round tie, but with Steven Gerrard taken off to allow Gonzalez into the fray, the new boy struck.
Haifa had taken the lead in the first half though Gustavo Boccoli, but Craig Bellamy - also on his debut - equalised soon after.
In Edinburgh, AEK Athens came from behind to snatch a 2-1 victory over 10-man Hearts after scoring twice in the final minutes.
Saulius Mikoliunas put Hearts in front, squeezing home a near-post shot in the 62nd minute from six metres. But Hearts were rocked four minutes later when Portugese midfielder Bruno Aguiar was sent off for a second bookable offence.
They look to have held on for a win until Pantelis Kapetanos headed an equaliser for the Greek side in the 88th minute. The winner came in stoppage time when Nikolaos Liberopoulous had a shot deflected in off Christope Berra to put the Greeks firmly in charge ahead of the second leg.
AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi celebrated his 33rd birthday with the goal that secured a 1-0 win over Red Star Belgrade, who defeated Cork City in the last round.
Despite Inzaghi's 22nd minute strike the six-times European champions still have a lot of work to do in the return match in two weeks' time in the Serbian capital.
