Team News:Andy Reid replaces Stephen Ireland in the Republic of Ireland team to face the Czech Republic in tomorrow night's crucial European qualifier in Prague.

The Charlton midfielder is the only change to the team that drew 2-2 with Slovakia in Bratislava on Saturday.

Manager Steve Staunton was not expected to name his team today but chose to after this morning's training session at the match venue.

Playmaker Reid, who was left warming the bench at the weekend as the manager turned to Darron Gibson and Jonathan Douglas, is a direct replacement for Ireland who returned home yesterday following the death of his grandmother.

"The conditions on Saturday definitely wouldn't have suited [Andy] but he is such a talent he can conjure a goal up out of anything or play that killer pass," said Staunton.

Celtic's Aiden McGeady, so impressive in the recent friendly win over Denmark but so disappointing at the weekend, is given a second chance to impress on a pitch that should prove a good deal more suited to his running game.

"I think this pitch will suit our players as much as theirs," added the manager. "They are a very good footballing side but I like to think our lads are growing and they are used to playing on good pitches."

Liverpool's Steve Finnan (knee) was ruled out yesterday so Stephen Kelly of Birmingham City holds his fullback place in the side despite an indifferent performance at the weekend.

"I think after assessing the lads over the last couple of days, they're all keen and eager and they look fresh," said Staunton.  "They're hungry again to get going tomorrow night.  I'm putting my trust and faith in them.  It's up to them.

"We know our passing can be a lot better and our control much better, but it was only a few single errors in the passing department that put us in an awful lot of trouble at the end of the first half.

"We know the Czechs are a good side. They've got a very strong squad and we're not under-estimating them at all. We know we're going to have to be at our very best again to get a draw or a win tomorrow night."

Kevin Doyle (hamstring) and Richard Dunne (knee) were carrying minor knocks yesterday but both are passed fit to play.

The hosts, who plan without the suspended Jan Koller, are sweating on the fitness of their other star striker, Milan Baros.

The former Liverpool and Aston Villa frontman is struggling with a back injury but is making progress ahead of the game.

His participation is touch-and-go but the player himself is optimistic.

"So far, so good," said Baros after training last night. "If things go well, I could be on the pitch on Wednesday."

Team-mate Tomas Rosicky admits the loss of Koller is a considerable blow for the Czechs but suggests Baros' pace will trouble the Ireland rearguard if passed fit to play.

"Milan, like Jan, is very quick," he said. "Our strikers should be able to outplay Irish defenders, who are big, but not as quick."
