Jose Antonio Reyes is desperate to see his prospective move from Arsenal to Real Madrid wrapped up "as soon as possible".

The Spain forward was left out of Arsenal's starting line-up for their Champions League qualifier against Dinamo Zagreb last night, fuelling speculation he is close to completing his switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.

If he had taken any part in the game, Reyes would have been ineligible to play for another side in Europe this season, jeopardising any potential move.

The 22-year-old now hopes Arsenal and Real can come to an arrangement regarding his transfer to the Spanish capital.

"Me and my family are somewhat tense at the moment and want to make sure things don't collapse," he told Spanish daily AS. "But I'm optimistic things will work out well in the end.

"I want things to be sorted out as soon as possible and I will have my mobile turned on all day on Wednesday in case there are any important calls."

On being left out by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for the Dinamo game, Reyes added: "I don't know if Wenger thought I was ready, but maybe he thought I was too distracted to play."

Wenger, who signed Reyes from Sevilla for around £10.5million in January 2004, admitted he felt Reyes was distracted rather than being concerned about his Champions League eligibility.

"With all the noises made about his transfer with Real Madrid, Reyes has been unsettled," said the Frenchman after Arsenal's 3-0 first-leg win.

"I did not think he had the right concentration to play. I just considered the game and the fact he will be cup-tied or not did not come into my mind. I played the team which I thought had a good chance to win the game."
