Transfer News:Manchester City have agreed to terminate the contract of former USA captain Claudio Reyna. The 33-year-old midfielder has not played for the club since the defeat by Tottenham in December and he is now expected to return to his homeland.
Reyna joined City for £2.5million from Sunderland in 2003 and went on to make 77 league appearances, scoring four goals. Reports have suggested Reyna was keen for a move home for family reasons and that he will sign a deal with Red Bull New York to play in Major League Soccer.
Villa to seal Young deal today
Watford forward Ashley Young will today finally seal his £9.65million move to Aston Villa, according to reports.
Young's signing will be announced once some "basic administration" has been completed.
It will be a further boost to Villa manager Martin O'Neill's attack after the arrival of Norway international John Carew from Lyon in a swap deal which took Milan Baros to the French club.
Young will sign a four-and-a-half-year contract worth £30,000 a week which will quadruple the wages he was being paid at Vicrage Road.
The 21-year-old, who rejected a move to West Ham earlier in the month, is expected to make his debut in the Premiership clash with Newcastle at St. James' Park on January 31st.
Bayern stand firm over Hargreaves
Bayern Munich boss Felix Magath does not expect Manchester United target Owen Hargreaves to leave the club during the transfer window.
The England international revealed last week that United had tabled a bid, reportedly amounting to almost £20million, for him as their long-running pursuit gathers pace.
However, asked if he expected any arrivals or departures before the January 31st deadline, Magath told his club's official website, www.fcbayern.de: "No, I'm assuming we'll go in pursuit of our targets - retaining the league championship and performing well in the Champions League - with the squad we have at the moment."
Hargreaves is currently recovering from injury as Bayern prepare to resume action against Borussia Dortmund after the Bundesliga's winter break.
Maccarone seeks Boro exit
Middlesbrough striker Massimo Maccarone is set to join Italian club Siena on a free transfer early next week, according to his agent.
Limited playing time on Teesside has forced the 27-year-old to
seek a return to his homeland.
The former Empoli striker has scored only one goal in seven
league appearances for the Premiership club this season.
"I have just returned from Middlesbrough," said Maccarone's agent Paolo Fabbri. "We have undergone negotiations for the player's free transfer to Siena.
"We are awaiting the okay from the Middlesbrough chairman (Steve Gibson) for the deal to be completed and that should arrive on Monday.
"There is an agreement with Siena and Maccarone could sign a three- to four-year contract with them."
Middlesbrough paid Empoli a club record £8.15million for Maccarone in 2002.
