Dutch winger Arjen Robben has been ruled out of Holland's Euro 2008 opener against Italy after suffering a groin injury in training.
The Real Madrid player was injured at the Dutch camp in Lausanne and is the latest injury to affect Marco van Basten's squad.
"First of all it's very disappointing for Arjen," said Holland coach Van Basten. "However, it's also a pity for the team, especially as we lost Ryan Babel, also a left winger, already last week.
"Together with the medical department, Arjen will work very hard on his recovery. So we really do hope that he can be of value for the team later in the tournament."
Babel was ruled out before the tournament started and Van Basten admitted yesterday Arsenal forward Robin van Persie would not be sufficiently recovered from a thigh injury to play against the Italians.
Wigan defender Mario Melchiot is doubtful with a groin injury.
