Bohemians 0 Shamrock Rovers 2: Shamrock Rovers cut Drogheda's lead the top of the League of Ireland to just five points with a smash and grab raid at Dalymount this evening.
Rovers were not at their best against their fierce Dublin rivals but goals from Danny O'Connor and Tadhg Purcell sent a large travelling contingent home happy and with dreams of a first title since 1994 still very much alive.
O'Connor opened the scoring after just five minutes, catching the Bohs defence out from a set-piece. Ger O'Brien floated in a free from the right which Andy Myler flicked into the danger zone where O'Connor met the ball with a sweet volley that flew between goalkeeper Alan Blaney's legs.
Stung into action, Bohs responded well and went on to dominate the half. However, despite their pressure and constant probing, Sean Connor's side were unable to get back on terms.
Purcell extended the Hoops' advantage 10 minutes into the second-half as Rovers punished slack passing in the Bohs midfield. John Martin seized upon a stray ball, putting O'Brien through and when he drill the ball across the face of goal Purcell was on hand to bundle home.
