Airtricity League round-up:After all the distractions earlier in the week, both Shamrock Rovers and Derry City proved they would not be knocked out of their stride as they recorded comfortable wins this evening.
Eamon Zayed, the Derry City striker who is alleged to have been racially abused by a Rovers player on Monday, was on the score sheet twice for City as Stephen Kenny’s side stayed within touching distance of the league leaders.
Gareth McGlynn opened the scoring against Bohemians before a Zayed brace ended the Dubliners’ resistance at the Brandywell.
Rovers were even more handsome winners at the Tallaght Stadium, defeating struggling Galway United 4-0. The win keeps the defending champions three points clear of St Patrick’s Athletic, who cut loose in the last 20 minutes to see off Drogheda United.
St Pat’s were being held to a 1-1 draw but scored three times without reply kept their push for the title on track.
