Reading's director of football Nick Hammond admits Kevin Doyle's decision to sign a new contract is "fantastic news" as the club bid to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.
The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland striker ended speculation linking him with a move away from the Royals by agreeing an extension to his current deal to keep him at the Madjeski Stadium until June 2011.
Hammond said: "I am very pleased that Kevin has put pen to paper on this deal. He is a model professional and, more importantly, an outstanding individual.
"It is fantastic news for the club and the supporters, and a sign of his character, that he has committed to helping Reading achieve the task of reclaiming Premier League status as soon as possible."
Reading chairman John Madejski added: "We are thrilled that Kevin has shown his commitment to our cause by signing this new contract.
"The fact he has signed is a clear statement of our 100 per cent commitment to reclaiming a place in the Premier League, and I'm sure Reading fans will be absolutely delighted with this news."
