St Patrick’s Athletic chief executive Richard Sadlier has stepped down from the position with immediate effect, the club has announced.
The 30-year-old’s departure is an amicable one but the former Millwall striker clearly found the role stressful, particularly in a difficult season for the Inchicore club.
“This decision was not an easy one. While the role has been very challenging, I have to say I've thoroughly enjoyed my time as CEO,” he said this afternoon.
“I would particularly like to thank the president (Phil Mooney) and the board, the staff and volunteers, the players and management team, and of course the supporters.
“This is a very special club and I wish everyone associated with St Pat's every success in the seasons ahead.”
Sadlier joined the Pat’s board in 2007 and was instrumental in the appointment of former Galway United boss Jeff Kenna to the manager’s position at the start of the season.
Kenna’s tenure was a disappointing one and he left in September with the club seemingly in freefall from the Premier Division.
Sadlier brought Pete Mahon in to stop the rot and the former UCD boss managed steer the Inchicore club to safety.
“Richard has made a huge contribution to the club and we’re very disappointed to lose him as CEO,” Mooney said today. “The club has just come through a difficult period thanks in no small way to his efforts.
“His contribution to the game on and off the field will be a big loss to St Pat’s and the league.
“Richard has indicated that he is willing to assist the club in whatever way he can and it is our desire that he maintains a connection with the club in some way as he will always be very welcome at Richmond Park.”
