Louis Saha has signed a lucrative contract extension which will keep him at Manchester United until 2010.

Although the France forward's previous deal was not due to expire for another two seasons, the move represents confirmation of Saha's elevation to senior status within Alex Ferguson's squad.

Having taken on the role of number one striker following the departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Saha has responded in superb fashion and the 28-year-old currently tops the United scoring charts with 12 goals.

"It is great news," Saha said. "I am really enjoying my time here and I wanted to show my commitment to Manchester United and also repay the faith that Sir Alex has shown in me.

"Hopefully we will have an exciting end to the season and add some silverware to the trophy room."

Free of the injuries which cursed him for almost two years following his arrival from Fulham in January 2004, Saha has become a crucial member of United's squad.

"I am delighted we have extended Louis' contract," said Ferguson.

"We are happy to see Louis here until at least 2010 and to add him to the players who have recently signed new contracts like Cristiano and Wayne.

"We address the situation of players' contracts now and then in order to strengthen the club and it's great to add Louis to the list.

"Louis' form has been fantastic since he has come back from injury and he has scored 26 goals in that time."
