Benni McCarthy has been urged to remain at Blackburn Rovers by Welshman Robbie Savage.

The Welsh midfielder believes the club can break into the top six next season and wants McCarthy to stay on board.

The former Porto striker issued a 'come and get me' plea to his former manager Jose Mourinho yesterday, claiming that he had paid his debt to Rovers and was eager to play in the Champion's League after scoring 18 goals in the top flight.

Savage, however, told today's Lancashire Telegraph: "Benni's a great lad and he's been brilliant for us this season. I really hope he realises this is a club that's going places. The grass isn't always greener elsewhere.

"We can break into the top six next season if we keep this squad together and make a few additions over the summer.

"We've got a great manager, great coaching staff and some terrific players, so it bugs me when people see this club as a stepping stone."

Meanwhile, new Bolton manager Sammy Lee has made his first signing as boss at the Reebok by recruiting Slovakia under-21 international Zoltan Harsanyi.

The 19-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the club after impressing during his spell on loan.

The striker arrived in January along with compatriot Lubomir Michalik and scored three times in seven games for the reserves.

He told the club's website, bwfc.co.uk: "My personal objective for next season is that I would like to get into the starting line-up of the first team and make some appearances in UEFA Cup games."
