Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has received a four-match touchline ban for attempting to strike Ivica Dragutinovic during the Euro 2008 qualifier with Serbia.
The punishment has been handed out by Uefa's disciplinary committee and effectively keeps Scolari off the bench for the remainder of Portugal's qualification campaign.
Scolari was seen lashing out at the player following Portugal's 1-1 draw at home to Serbia in their Group A qualifier on September 12th.
Dragutinovic, who was shown a red card at the end of the match, was also given a two-match ban for improper conduct and will miss Serbia's qualifying matches in Armenia and Azerbaijan next month.
Both men can appeal within three days of receiving the reasons for their punishment in writing.
Subject to appeal, Scolari will sit out the matches away to Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan in October and at home against Armenia and Finland in November.
The Brazilian has also been fined €12,000.
A Uefa statement added: "Before and during the match, [Scolari] will not be allowed to go in the team dressing-room, the tunnel, or the technical zone, or on the pitch. In addition, he will not be allowed to communicate with his team."
