Cork City 4-1 Dungannon Swifts:Cork City enjoyed a convincing 4-1 win over Dungannon Swifts in tonight's Setanta Cup fixture at Turner's Cross but still missed out on a chance to go top of Group 1.
The home side were dominant for most of the night and had chances in the opening minutes plus a goal disallowed for offside.
The breakthrough was made in the 24th minute when Darren Murphy latched onto a well directed Danny Murphy free from the right side. It wasn't long before Cork doubled their advantage in the 39th minute when Liam Kearney picked up on a well worked pass from Pat Sullivan before slotting home.
Dungannon started the second half well and pulled one back when Shea McGerrigan rounded Cork goalkeeper Mark McNulty 10 minutes after the restart.
Denis Behan restored the two goal advantage in the 63rd from the penalty spot after Adam McMinn was penalized for his challenge on Lawrie Dudfield. Darragh Ryan put the icing on the cake with 20 minutes to go when he met Joe Gamble's cross at the far post.
Cork needed to score two more goals to top the group on goal difference and secure a home semi-final fixture. Instead they will play their semi-final away from Turner's Cross.
Drogheda United beat Cliftonville 2-0 in their Setanta Cup fixture at Celtic Park with goals from Eamon Zayed and Adam Hughes either side of halftime. The win means Drogheda are at home for their semi-final.
Elsewhere Shelbourne and Waterford United played out a 0-0 draw in the Eircom League First Division.
