Setanta Cup Round-Up: The split between top and bottom in Group One of the Setanta Cup became even greater tonight when two-times champions Drogheda United and their League of Ireland counterparts Cork City comfortably beat their Irish League opponents in the cross border competition.
The Drogs travelled to Stangmore Park to take on Dungannon Swifts, but the home side had little to offer against their southern opponents. Too many defensive errors presented Paul Doolin's men with a very easy night in front of goal.
Tony Grant opened the scoring after Paul Keegan split the Swifts' defence with a perfectly weighted pass. When Jason Gavin headed the ball back across the goalmouth from a Joe Kendrick cross, Graham Gartland was left with the easiest of tap-ins for the second.
The visitors went three nil up when Stuart Byrne sent a speculative ball back into the Dungannon box only for Adam McMinn to knock the ball past his own goalkeeper and into the net.
Substitute Declan O'Brien marked his return - after almost a year out - with Drogheda's fourth of the evening. Richie Baker broke down the right wing before crossing to O'Brien, who took a touch before slotting the ball into the bottom left corner for the easiest of 4-0 wins.
Two goals in four minutes at Turner's Cross was enough for Cork to see off Cliftonville. John O'Flynn was first to score before Dave Mooney got in on the act to secure their second group win.
Drogheda and Cork are level on seven points while Dungannon and Cliftoville have only one point apiece from three games.
