Sevilla have dismissed a bid from Chelsea for Daniel Alves as "way below" what they would accept.
The Uefa Cup holders have been fending off interest from the Stamford Bridge side for the 24-year-old Brazil international defender, who has indicated that he would like to move to England.
A Sevilla statement read: "Sevilla would like to clarify, in relation to the news in various media stories relating to negotiations between this club and Chelsea of England for the transfer of the player to the London club, that Sevilla has considered the offer made by Chelsea to acquire the player as way below the level expected by the club (Sevilla).
"This being the case, Daniel remains a player of Sevilla FC."
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said after his side's 2-1 victory over Reading on Wednesday: "We are trying to buy him but the situation is not done at this moment. We will see what happens."
Earlier, Alves' agent Geronimo Suarez said he was "80-90 per cent confident" a deal would be struck for the player.
Spanish media reports suggested Chelsea had lodged a €32 million bid for Alves with the Andalusian club.
Alves has become a mainstay of the team that has won two consecutive Uefa Cups as well as the 2006 European Super Cup. He has made 138 Primera Liga appearances for Sevilla and scored nine goals.
