Republic of Ireland U-21 team news: Celtic’s Cillian Sheridan has been handed a first start at Under-21 level in tomorrow’s friendly between the Republic of Ireland and Germany.

The Celtic target man, currently on loan at Motherwell, is among three new faces in Don Givens’ side for the match at Turners Cross.

Nottingham Forest full-back Brendan Moloney and Aston Villa centre-back Shane Lowry will both make their debuts alongside Sheridan.

Hamilton teenage sensation James McCarthy will also feature from the start.

“It is always good to have a test close to a qualification match,” Givens said this evening. “We play Germany tomorrow and then Spain on March 27th, just four days before we play Turkey.

“These two matches will be a big help and we are looking for a big performance against Germany. The fans in Cork always give us great support and we are looking for a good attendance again at Turner’s Cross to give the lads the encouragement to produce their best form and surprise Germany.”
