Veteran West Ham forward Teddy Sheringham has admitted he turned down the chance to sign for Tottenham for the third time in his career because he is enjoying his time at Upton Park.

Spurs made a transfer window approach for the former England international, who will be 40 in April, and West Ham were willing to let the player speak to the club he previously played for in two spells - from 1992 to 1997 and 2001 to 2003.

However, Sheringham was not interested in a trip back to White Hart Lane.

"There was a chance to go to Tottenham and he (manager Alan Pardew) said if I really wanted to go he wouldn't stand in my way," said the Premiership's oldest outfield player.

"The manager made it quite clear he wanted me to stay here and I'm enjoying playing for West Ham and I want to do it next season as well.

"The grass is not always greener on the other side. The manager is doing a great job, there are a great bunch of players here and I'm getting great job satisfaction day in, day out."

Sheringham told Sky Sports News he could not hold back time but he was looking forward to playing in the Premiership next season.

"I'd prefer to be 22 but I'm not. I've had a great career and loved every minute of it and we'll see what happens next."
