Liverpool 1 Everton 1:Everton stopped neighbours Liverpool reclaiming top spot in the Premier League with a defiant display at Anfield. Liverpool had forced their way into the lead when Steven Gerrard crashed home a fine low drive midway through the second half but a Tim Cahill header three minutes from time earned Everton a point.

Gerrard fired Liverpool ahead after 68 minutes when he lashed in a low 30-metre drive that skidded across the surface and eluded Tim Howard as Everton conceded their first goal in six matches.

But Everton struck back in the dying minutes when Mikel Arteta swept in a superbly struck free-kick and Cahill got ahead of the Liverpool defence to glance in the equaliser.

The draw saw Liverpool go level with Manchester United on 47 points but the champions stay top on goal difference and now have a game in hand. Everton remain sixth with 36 points.
