Irish international Ian Harte will have to undergo surgery to deal with an injury on his left leg that caused him to miss this week's friendly against the Netherlands, his club Levante said today.

Levante said that they had not yet decided the date of the operation, but that the former Leeds United player would be out of action for between four and five weeks following surgery.

That means that Harte will be ruled out of Ireland's opening Euro 2008 qualification game away to Germany on September 2nd.

The Primera Liga side, who were promoted after finishing third in the second division last season, said that the 28-year-old has been suffering problems because of a cyst at the top of his fibula.
