SPL round-up: Stephen Kenny's Dunfermline were relegated from the Scottish Premier League in the most cruel fashion this evening following a 2-1 defeat at Inverness.
A calamitous goalkeeping mistake from Dorus De Vries and an 89th-minute deflected winner from Inverness substitute Rory McAllister sent them down.
Jim McIntyre's stunning first-half volley gave the Pars a thoroughly deserved lead, only for De Vries to make a complete hash of trying to save Richard Hastings' free-kick.
McAllister then struck late on and coupled with St Mirren's 3-2 victory over Motherwell, that was enough to send Dunfermline down to the First Division.
A John Sutton double secured St Mirren's top flight status after an incredible comeback over Motherwell which ultimately proved harmless for the Steelmen.
A Ross McCormack double looked set to give Motherwell the result
they required to banish any doubts about their safety. Saints
substitutes Sutton and Billy Mehmet turned the game on its head,
but Dunfermline's defeat at Inverness meant both sides stay up.
Elsewhere, Aberdeen failed to nail down a Uefa Cup spot after
losing to champions Celtic at Parkhead. Darren Mackie equalised Jan
Vennegoor of Hesselink's 32nd-minute opener for the Hoops moments
after Artur Boruc had saved a Jamie Smith penalty.
But the former PSV player struck again after the break to give the home side a victory which means the Pittodrie side go into their last game of the season against Rangers just one point ahead of fourth-placed Hearts.
