Otto Pfister has confirmed his resignation as coach of Togo just three days before their World Cup opener against South Korea.

The 68-year-old German stormed out of the team's hotel in Wangen last night because of the ongoing dispute with the country's football federation over player bonuses.

The players have asked for £80,000 each to play in the tournament, plus an additional £20,000 each per victory.

Togo's football federation hinted the dispute was close to being resolved earlier in the week, but the intervention of the country's prime minister Edem Kodjo, who flew into Germany yesterday, suggested otherwise.

And Pfister finally decided enough was enough this morning and announced he would not be leading Togo in Germany.

"I'm giving up my work as national trainer," he told German newspaper Tagesspiegel. "I will not be at the World Cup. I'm not going to let myself be messed around any longer."

Pfister only took charge of the team in February when Stephen Keshi, who led the team to the World Cup finals, was sacked following disappointing results in the African Nations Cup.

Pfister's assistant Piet Hamberg has also left his post.
