Stephen Keshi has been sacked as coach of Togo after the World Cup finalists lost their three matches at the African Nations Cup.
A successor will be announced later today, said the Togo government's official website.
Former Nigeria World Cup captain Keshi was also embroiled in a verbal spat with his top striker Emmanuel Adebayor at the Nations Cup, which led to Arsenal's new signing refusing to play in two of Togo's three Group B games in Egypt.
Togo lost to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon and Angola.
Keshi guided the tiny west African nation to a surprise place at the 2006 World Cup in Germany in June after a run of nine unbeaten qualifying matches helped them finish above favourites Senegal and Zambia in their group.
The 43-year-old Keshi was captain of Nigeria at the 1994 World Cup finals in the USA.
He was one of his country's first major soccer exports to Europe, playing at Belgian club Anderlecht and at Racing Strasbourg in France. He finished his career in Malaysia and the US and now lives in San Francisco.
Togo have been drawn in World Cup Group G alongside France, South Korea and Switzerland.
