Tottenham attempted to sign Fulham striker Luis Boa Morte in the summer but could not meet their valuation of the Portuguese star.
Spurs, who have since signed French midfielder Steed Malbranque from the Cottagers, had wanted Boa Morte as well but manager Chris Coleman revealed their offer was nowhere near high enough.
The two clubs meet at White Hart Lane this afternoon and Coleman is hoping his captain will show Spurs what they missed have missed out on.
Coleman said: "He came back from the World Cup and there was all the hoo-hah about whether he was leaving us.
"He is always being linked with a move away from this club but he was about £5 million away from joining Spurs.
"What they offered was nowhere near what we valued him at and we had no chance of replacing him for that fee."
