Soccer:Republic of Ireland international Keith Treacy has dropped down a division to League One to join Sheffield Wednesday on an emergency loan deal. The midfielder has dropped off the radar at Burnley since the turn of the year and will make the short trip across the Pennines until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old joined Burnley from Preston last summer, scoring a goal on his debut at the start of the season, but has seen his fortunes slide as the Lancashire club’s bid for a play-off place faltered. Manager Eddie Howe has used the Dubliner just five times since January with Treacy not even making the substitutes bench in recent weeks.
Treacy has been capped six times for Ireland under Giovanni Trapattoni, the last of those coming in the friendly against Croatia last summer.
