Soccer:Wembley stadium will stage the 2013 Champions League final only two years after hosting this year's match between Barcelona and Manchester United. The match had been awarded to Wembley to mark the English FA's 150th anniversary, Uefa president Michel Platini announced.

Platini, who in April apologised for the high cost of tickets at this year's final, said UEFA had also been impressed with the organisation at this year's match.

"This may seem exceptional but I think it was important for us to respect this anniversary of our game," said Platini.

It means Wembley will host an unprecedented two finals in the space of three years after Barcelona’s 3-1 last month. The decision was passed unanimously by Uefa’s executive committee meeting in Nyon, Switzerland.

It will be the seventh time that Wembley has hosted the Champions League or European Cup final, the most of any venue.

Platini said: “There are always many candidates for the Champions League final and the Congress but this is to mark the special year of the English FA.”
