FA Cup round-up: Birmingham were lucky to stay in the competition after holding League Two strugglers Torquay to a goalless draw at Plainmoor.

A Robbie Fowler hat-trick saved Manchester City, who beat League One Scunthorpe 3-1 having trailed at half-time.

Scunthorpe took the lead through Andrew Keogh after Fowler squandered a good chance in a rare outing, but Fowler made amends for his earlier mishap by levelling for City early in the second half.

And Fowler produced another classy finish to turn the game on its head before collecting his hat-trick with a penalty.

Blackburn enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win against Championship visitors QPR with captain Andy Todd scoring first and Craig Bellamy finishing things with a brace.

Under-performing Charlton saw off Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, winning 4-2 despite resistance by the Championship side.

Dennis Rommedahl finished coolly to give Charlton the lead before the home side equalised through Paul Heckingbottom three minutes later. Matt Holland made it 2-1 and Rommedahl extended the lead before Heckingbottom dragged the Owls back into the game only for Darren Bent to finish the scoring.
