Wales boss John Toshack has called for big performances from his top stars as he prepares for the historic Euro 2008 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland at Croke Park later this month.

Toshack named a 26-man squad today for two Group D qualifiers against the Irish at Croke Park which will be hosting its first football match.

San Marino then visit Cardiff four days later, and the Wales manager turned the spotlight on Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy and Simon Davies.

With the vast majority of his squad being drawn from the Football League, Toshack admitted he is looking to skipper Giggs, Liverpool's Bellamy and Fulham's new signing Davies for performances of a lifetime in a Wales shirt.

And Toshack said: "I want them to forget about the Champions League, forget about the Premiership, I want a high level of concentration and responsibility from the three of them. I can set the side up with players from the lower divisions, but I want these three to come up with the goods."

But Toshack is honest enough to admit he is not expecting to have West Ham duo Danny Gabbidon and James Collins fit enough after months of groin problems for the two games, despite naming them after consultation with the players and their club.

Giggs will be his main concern, as Manchester United continue their pursuit of a treble.

United's draw at Middlesbrough in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday was the worst possible result for Toshack and Wales. Giggs, 33, now has a tough league game at Bolton on the Saturday, followed by a replay with Middlesbrough at Old Trafford on the Monday night of international week.

It is a serious dilemma for Toshack, who said: "I shall just be keeping my fingers crossed. I wonder whether United will view the Bolton game, with them nine points clear at the top, as the most important and use Ryan in that.

"He could then play on the Monday, which really is not in his best interests. He is always nursing himself through these days and if he plays in both games he will certainly not even be considered for training with us until the Thursday before the Dublin game on the Saturday.

"I just have to wait. He is United's player and it is not for me to say whether he should play in two games in three days or not. I can hardly ring up Alex Ferguson and ask him!"
