EA Sports Cup:Waterford United took their place in the EA Sports Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 win over Shamrock Rovers at the RSC tonight.
The First Division side took the lead after 42 minutes when John Kiely capitalised on a defensive error and beat Barry Murphy in the Rovers net.
Rovers equalised just three minutes later through Dessie Baker but the winner came from John Kearney free-kick on the hour.
At the Morton Stadium, Sporting Fingal were beaten by Rafael Cretaro strike but had goalkeeper Richard Brush to thank for a keeping them in the game with a penalty save after 15 minutes.
First Division leaders UCD also claimed a scalp with a 2-1 win over Galway United at Terryland Park.
After a positive first half, Galway had centre half Garry Breen sent off for a tackle on Chris Mulhall, who put the students ahead nine minutes later.
Their win was sealed when Peter McMahon’s shot went in off Galway defender Shane Guthrie.
In the late kick-off, goals from Mark Hughes and Neale Fenn gave Bohemians a 2-1 win over Wexford Youths.
