Waterford United have tonight denied ever holding discussions with controversial legal figure Giovanni Di Stefano regarding a possible takover or investment in the club.

"Waterford United would like to place on the record that no member of its board or management committee has ever met with, nor had any discussions with a Mr Di Stefano or any of his representatives," a club statement read.

Last week Di Stefano claimed he was approached by the club with a view to a full takeover.

Shelbourne yesterday pulled the plug on their dealings with Di Stefano who claimed he would invest as much as €1 million in the Drumcondra club.

Drogheda United chairman Vincent Hoey has also clarified that at no stage has there been contact with Di Stefano or any of his representatives.

"Drogheda is not for sale," he said.
