Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has avoided further sanction from UEFA following his one-match touchline ban in the Champions League.

The Gunners boss had to watch the final Group H game against Steaua Bucharest from the stands at the Emirates Stadium as punishment for confronting the fourth official during the 3-1 away defeat by Sevilla.

Europe's governing body could have extended that sanction to the first leg of Arsenal's last-16 match, as they did with Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard for a similar offence.

However, UEFA's control and disciplinary body have ruled a one-match ban, which has already been served, will suffice.

It is understood the Frenchman stated in his defence that there were reasons he was unable to move to the stands.
