Arsenal's bid to become the first English team to beat AC Milan at the San Siro have been hit by the loss of Kolo Toure for at least three weeks.
Toure limped off in the seventh minute of last night's 0-0 Champions League draw with a calf problem sustained when he blocked a shot by Pato.
The loss of yet another player to the treatment room compounded a frustrating night for the Gunners who failed to capitalise on their dominance at the Emirates.
Arsenal must now travel to Milan without Toure, who alongside Jens Lehmann is one of only two survivors from the starting line-up that thrashed Inter five years ago.
And Wenger left little doubt over what he blamed for Toure's injury with the Ivorian having recently returned from the African Nations Cup.
He said: "Kolo has a calf injury and from what I can see he will be out for at least three to four weeks.
"The injury was a consequence of the African Nations Cup."
Milan are in commanding position for the second leg but coach Carlo Ancelotti refused to write off the Barclays Premier League leaders.
He said: "Qualification is still in doubt. We are not yet safe for the return match.
"We're not sure of going through because Arsenal have shown great quality and we know they can do it in the return."
