Arsene Wenger has confirmed he will "certainly" bring in a new face before Arsenal's Champions League second leg with FC Twente on August 27th.
The Gunners manager has suggested for some time that he could add to his squad at the Emirates Stadium with a midfielder top of his wanted list.
Speaking after the Gunners' win in Holland on Wednesday night, Wenger said: "Will something be done ahead of the second leg? Certainly, yes. But before Saturday? No."
Wenger, who has been linked with a move for Lyon holding player Jeremy Toulalan, did point out that his squad is actually larger than many people realise.
"If you look at the number of players we had out, you can say it was very positive for us," he said. "We did not have Diaby, Fabregas, Rosicky, Nasri, Kolo Toure, Eduardo and Senderos while Song is at the Olympics.
"We missed seven or eight players out so for me our squad looks big because the players who were here did well."
Roy Keane has given up hope of signing Manchester United defender Johnny Evans after the player impressed on loan last season.
The Black Cats boss had made the Northern Ireland defender one of his top summer targets, but has been forced to accept defeat in his pursuit of the 20-year-old.
Evans was on loan at the Stadium of Light last season but despite a substantial offer from Sunderland Alex Ferguson is not parting with the youngster on a permanent basis.
Evans has stepped into the first team fold at Old Trafford following the sale of Gerard Pique to Barcelona and, as such, Ferguson is reluctant to see another defender leave the club.
"My mindset was always that Jonny was going to go back to United," said Keane.
"When United sold Pique we were pretty sure they would hold on to Jonny."
